2007-2008 Waterfowl Season

11/10/2007:  It was quite chilly this morning as we headed out to the impoundment for the opening day hunt; the overnight low was around 38 degrees.  Due to the drought conditions, we only have one impoundment with enough water to hunt.  There were a total of 26 members/minor children who showed up to hunt.  There were more wild ducks on the impoundment this early in the season than I have ever seen.  In addition to the 800 + mallards, I feel comfortable saying we say over 600 wood ducks enter/leave the impoundment, along with a large number of widgeon, teal, gadwall, and even a few black ducks.  We shot a total of 78 ducks.
11/17/2007:  The weather this morning was again chilly; it was only 25 degrees as we entered the impoundment.  There were a total of 29 hunters this morning.  We again saw a large number of wild birds in the impoundment.  It was another great shoot, harvesting 82 ducks.

11/24/2007:  Today was the first afternoon hunt we have had all year.  The weather was mild, around 55 degrees.  Normally, our afternoon hunts are not much to speak of.  We flush the ducks off of the impoundment as we enter and very few return before legal shooting time is over.  Today was quite different!  The ducks circled the impoundment all afternoon!  This was by far the best hunt we have had all year.  There were 23 hunters and we harvested 86 ducks total.  What a day!!

12/1/2007:  It was not quite a cold as previous hunts this morning, the overnight low was only 45 degrees.  Today was an average hunt.  We are beginning to see fewer wild ducks...mostly due to the intense hunting pressure we have created over the last few hunts.  There were 22 people hunting this morning and we harvested 61 ducks.

12/15/2007:  Today was the first hunt following the two week break in the season.  It was extremely overcast and windy as a cold front moved through last night.  We had another excellent hunt this morning and we saw a large number of wild birds again.  Because it was overcast and somewhat dark when shooting time arrived at 6:50, it looked like the Fourth of July when the first shots were fired as all the guns went off!  There were 23 hunters this morning and we harvested 100 birds!!

Listed below are the dates that we have hunted our waterfowl impoundments, the number of hunters which participated, and the number of birds harvested.
